The lunchtime bake sale was a resounding success, with a fantastic spread of homemade treats on offer. From key lime pie to Ube Macapuno Cake, there was something to satisfy every sweet tooth. Staff tucked in and ate their fill of delicious bakes, all while knowing that every penny raised was going to a fantastic cause. Needless to say, the cakes didn’t hang around for long – it was very much a case of “on your marks, get set… bake!”
Later, our very own Nigella and Paul Hollywood stepped in to judge the entries. Bakers and tasters gathered nervously as the judging commenced, with plenty of careful inspecting, tasting and deliberation. It was a tense affair, although thankfully there were no soggy bottoms in sight. In true Labman fashion, the results were recorded in an Excel spreadsheet, because apparently even a baking competition needs a robust data management system.
The results were finally in. Third place: Cardamom Buns, Second place: Cinnamon Cupcakes and First place: Scones with Homemade Butter.
And there was one baker who really rose to the occasion. Abbie was crowned our Star Baker, taking home both first and second place! A truly impressive performance. A huge congratulations to Abbie and to everyone who took part. Whether you were baking, buying, judging or simply helping to make the cakes disappear, thank you for getting involved and helping us raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
At Labman, we’re proud to support fantastic charities and to come together as a team to raise money for causes that make a real difference. And if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that a little flour, butter and friendly competition can go a long way.
